The Mets: Talk of the Trades.

Sunniest of Sundays everyone!

I do Apologize for the wicked case of Writers Block I contracted last week, but I'm back!

It's that time of the week and Day again, "Sunday Reading!"

Today, we'll discuss Trade Possibilities.

It's almost the Trade deadline and there are ton of rumors floating around! One of them is Noah Syndergaard being shipped out. Another is Zack Wheeler on his way out the door.

With the Mets announcing they will officially be sellers, Lots of questions are being asked. "Who is being Traded", "Who do we trade for", "What do we need", etc, etc, etc.

Lots of fans are wanting the Mets to completely blow the team up by either trading Jacob deGrom or trading virtually everyone that isn't named deGrom, Alonso or McNeil and Rebuild. I'm going to nip this in the metaphorical bud right now and say that isn't happening. The Mets didn't sign their Ace, Jacob deGrom to a 5 year extension on the grounds that the team would Re-Build.

The pieces that are likely to be traded are: Jason Vargas, Todd Frazier, Zack Wheeler, Adeiny Hechavarria and Luis Avilan.

The Trend here is that all of these players are on expiring contracts and will be Free Agents come seasons end.

Dominic Smith was going to be part of the trade list, but with the recently diagnosed Stress Reaction in his foot, he's most likely off the trade table. I think Wilson Ramos will be available on the trade market as well because he's got a powerful bat, a decent catcher and can be useful on a team in need of a starting Catcher who also has a year left on his contract.

With Syndergaard's name being thrown into the trade mix, I doubt that he'll be traded. Unlike Wheeler, Syndergaard has two more years of control on his contract before becoming an Unrestricted Free Agent. Yes, you would get a better return for Syndergaard rather than Wheeler whose Contract expires at the end of the season, but trading Syndergaard would require a "Blow my Socks off" Type of deal.

I would have to imagine the deal would have to consist of a Major League Player who is either a Starter right now (Position Player or Pitcher) or a player in Triple-A who is being blocked by a Team and can be penciled into the Lineup the next game!

For instance, if the Padres are indeed involved in a Syndergaard trade, The Mets would have to acquire Julio Urias or a Fernando Tatis Jr type of player before trade talks go any further.

Now, onto what would be if these Players are dealt.

With Frazier most likely being traded, It's all the more possible that JD Davis will get the Lion's share of the starts at 3rd Base. His 3rd Base defense needs a lot of work. The Double Clutch that he always does when he makes a play at 3rd base needs to be worked on because it kills precious seconds that must be used accordingly!

If Wilson Ramos is indeed dealt, Tomas Nido would get the majority of starts behind the dish. With most of the Pitchers in the starting Rotation preferring to Pitch to Nido, this could possibly spell the end of Ramos' Tenure in New York. In that event, Rene Rivera would come up and be the Backup catcher to Tomas Nido and help Mentor him and turn him into an Even better Defensive Catcher!

If Wheeler and Vargas are dealt, I can see a Scenario where Corey Oswalt and Walker Lockett take their places in the Rotation.

However, with the recent report of the Mets being Interested and in on Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Robbie Ray, I can see a situation where the Return for Wheeler and Vargas can be turned into the price for Diamondbacks Southpaw!

The Likelihood of that happening exactly? I honestly have no idea, but If what is being reported is true, then we could see a bolstered Rotation with Ray acquired.

In the First half of the season, the Mets bullpen virtually destroyed the Mets season by blowing saves and giving up leads or being unable to pitch a scoreless frame during a tie. For all it's worth, the Mets bullpen in the 2nd half so far has been a godsend! They are holding leads, giving up much less runs, pitching scoreless frames, this is what Mets GM Brodie Van Wagenen was looking for in the Bullpen all season!

The Mets aren't as far away from contending like most others think. If anything, the only thing the Mets will need is a Catcher if Ramos is traded, A Starting Pitcher and a Starting Center Fielder. Those pieces right there will be the only thing the Mets will need to really contend!

That's it for today my Friends.

Until the Next Article,

LETS GO METS!!!
