Keep Calm and deGrom

It's Sunday and you know what that means, right? It means it's time for another article!

Today we tackle the issue of Jacob deGrom and his health!

I've seen All over Facebook land, on TV, Radio and in person that most Mets fans, Some Yankee fans and even fans out of New York that aren't fans of the Mets or Yankees express either concern for deGrom and some or even Bash deGrom and the Mets for supposidly "Faking" being sick to hide his elbow injury.

Here we go.

The Last 2 Starts for Jacob deGrom were both putrid and concerning, almost the point where fans were concerned that deGrom could be hurt. A few days after his start against The Atlanta Braves, it was revealed that deGrom was suffering from strep throat, which would explain why he wasn't as his usual self against the Nationals and Marlins.

It was figured that since he's sick, He'll be back to his normal self hopefully by his next start against the St. Louis Cardinals. But, on Friday, it was revealed that after a game of catch, deGrom had a "Barking Elbow" and was going to head back to New York for an MRI.

This news sent most of the Twitterverse and Mets fans into a frenzied panic, calling the season to be over and automatically assuming that deGrom would have to get Tommy John surgery.

The fans were so panicked, that they actually came to the conclusion that deGrom and the Mets faked his strep throat illness and used it to cover up his "Barking Elbow." With this going around, some fans tried to calm these fans down, but to no avail.

A Few hours later after the announcement of deGrom's elbow, General Manager Brodie Van Wagenen came out and issued a statement which is listed below:

Van Wagenen's statement makes things very clear and should've gave fans a reason to breathe and step off of the ledge.

But did it?

No it didn't!

Instead, It gave fans flashbacks to the 2017 season when Noah Syndergaard was expressing Bicep discomfort and eventually missed the Majority of the season.

Syndergaard refused to see doctors and go for an MRI. It was a foolish move, but it was his right to refuse the MRI. He felt he knew his body and that he was going to fine. Well, After pitching 2 Innings or so against the Nationals in Washington, Syndergaard experiences an Injury, But not the one that was hindering him. He had suffered a Torn Lat Muscle and missed a major portion of the Season, eventually coming back in September and barely pitching.

Let's rewind the clock for a moment:

When a player or anyone for that matter goes for an MRI, they usually get an MRI of the Area that's bothering them. In Syndergaard's case, it was his Bicep because he was suffering from Bicep Tendentious. It wouldn't have shown any damage to his Lat or anywhere else on his body except for Muscles and joints surrounding the Bicep.

When Syndergaard got hurt against the Nationals and eventually revealed that he had a torn lat muscle, Fans went ballistic on the Mets (Which is nothing new at this point). They were blaming The Mets for not forcing Syndergaard to get an MRI and somehow knowing that Syndergaard had this Lat issue.

The Lat tear and Bicep Tendentious have nothing to do with each other. An MRI on Syndergaard's Bicep would not have done anything for his Lat muscle. Had Syndergaard went for the MRI on his Bicep and still tore his lat, Fans would still be in an uproar and say that he should've gotten an MRI on his lat, when the Lat wasn't the issue.

But back to deGrom.

After the 5-4 win against the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday, deGrom was seen tossing a baseball in the form of a 120 ft game of Catch. This Immediately sent fans into an outrage, calling the Mets organization clueless, Inept, delusional and every insult in the English dictionary and maybe some in the Spanish one too. Some included the usual and overused "Wilpons are cheap" comments as well.

It was revealed by manager Mickey Callaway, that deGrom has been in contact with his Doctor, that Management, the Organization, deGrom and the Doctors were not concerned that this would be a long term injury.

Van Wagenen's comments earlier stated that deGrom was experiencing some Mild elbow soreness, consulted the Medical training staff that the Mets had on hand and that deGrom's elbow felt Significantly better with treatment.

The issue the fans are having is that the Mets are saying that deGrom may decide to forgo the MRI. This isn't a decision by deGrom, the Mets or even Van Wagenen or the Wilpons are making. This is most likely coming from deGrom's doctor, a Medical Professional. deGrom is still going to see the Doctor on Monday after the game Sunday against St. Louis.

If the Medical Professional deGrom is seeing on Monday says he doesn't need an MRI, then in the Doctor's professional opinion, deGrom most likely won't need one. Now, will deGrom ask for one anyway to play it safe? That is most certainly a possibility.

The Mets put deGrom on the Injured List as a Precaution, Just in case something is truly wrong. With the Mets clearing everything up though, It makes sense to put him on the Injured list to give him some additional rest and hopefully just missing the one start that was suppose to be against St. Louis.  According to the Mets, if all goes well which they are expecting, then deGrom will be good to go for his start against the Brewers.

It's amazing to think that the fans would honestly come to the conclusion that deGrom would fake having strep throat or that the team would hide an elbow injury by saying he's got Strep throat.  The fans will go out of their way to push a narrative, so much so to even say that the Mets will fake an injury and it's incredible how they believe the narrative they follow. They will also demand others to "Stop defending the Owners/Front Office/Team/Organization."

Hopefully, we get some good news from deGrom's doctors on Monday and more good news to follow after that!

Until the Next Article my Friends,

LETS GO METS!!!
