Thank you John Tavares

This is the Last thing I wanted to see, But John Tavares has signed a 7 Year 77 Million Dollar Deal, Not with the Islanders but with the Toronto Maple Leafs.  As much as it hurts, I'm not surprised that he decided to leave. Like myself, A Lot of other People including Virtually most of NHL Insiders though that Tavares would Re-Sign with the Islanders. All of us were Wrong and Toronto fans are probably celebrating in the streets right now. I Don't mind him leaving the Islanders in Free agency as it is his right to do so and has earned that right, but I wish he could've let us know sooner rather than later. This is something that can literally bite the Islanders later on...The Positive thing about Tavares Not re-signing is now the Islanders have 30 Million Dollars in Cap Space to spend and can Sign Free Agents and make trades for Big name Players. The Negative thing(s) (And there are a lot of them) is that this is on Ownership. Malkin and Ledecky Granted Tavares his wish to wait the year out in order to make a decision on re-signing with the Team or not. This partially is on Garth Snow, Who I Vehemently defend most of the time, not because I like him, but because I Defend Moves he and the Organization or any organization makes for that matter and have to give credit where credit is due and why said move was made at the time. 2012-2013 he put a playoff team together, 2014-15 and 2015-16 he did as well....The last 2 years haven't been good at all....Offense hasn't been the issue but the last 2 seasons, defense and Goaltending has been and the years before 2012-13 were. With all that being said, There wasn't much done to get Tavares to stay until really the end of this season. By that, I mean that Barzal was stellar and won the Calder, as was Beauvillier who had a rejuvenated year after spending a few days in the AHL, Bailey became an All-Star and got a Bargain extension, Lee became a 40 Goal scorer and was on Fire on Tavares' Wing and the Offense was one of the Best in the League. The Defense on the Other hand was horrific. An understanding of said defense was suppose to be based off the old Russian/Red Army Defense way back in the day where the Goaltender would indeed see every shot and the Defense sticking to their assignments and controlling the rebounds....They didn't do that at all, the defense was horrible and the Goaltending suffered because of it.  This could've been a turnoff for Tavares, but I don't think we'll know anytime soon. He claims it was a Childhood Dream and a Leap of Faith....If that's the Case, it's his right to choose where he wants to go and who he wants to sign with. After all of this, I'm Hoping Lou Lamoriello has one hell of a Plan B (Signing Players and/or Making Big Trades). Thank you for 9 Years John Tavares! All the Best to you and your Family!!!
