Hello my Friends! It's been a long time I know, but with the Lack of Mets news in time and the Managerial announcement being made on Friday, I figured it was a good time to write about it.

For Today's edition of "Sunday Reading", we'll dive into the Mets decision to name Carlos Beltran the next manager, the other candidates involved as well as how the league is nowadays.

On Friday, November 1st, The New York Mets hired Carlos Beltran as their new Manager. Lets rewind to the Interview process.

When Mickey Callaway was fired, the Big managerial Free agent fish was Joe Girardi and he was automatically the fan favorite. The Mets had Interviewed Joe Girardi as well as Broadcaster Eduardo Perez, Brewers bench coach Pat Murphy, Syracuse Mets manager Tony DeFrancesco, Nationals first base coach Tim Bogar, Twins bench coach Derek Shelton along with other candidates.

Mets fans wanted Joe Girardi in the worst of ways to replace Mickey Callaway. Fans knew that Joe Girardi came with a lot of managing experience in his time the Miami Marlins (Then Florida) as well as the New York Yankees and winning a World Series as their skipper. Girardi was given 2 Rounds of Interviews, but eventually was offered a Contract by the Philadelphia Phillies and signed with the Phillies for 3 years to be their Skipper.

Girardi going to the Phillies broke the Hearts of many Mets fans and made them question ownership, but that happens all the time with any move The Mets make. Fans, Mets Beat writers, Radio Talk show hosts and anyone outside of the Mets organization completely destroyed the Mets for not offering Joe Girardi a contract. Everyone mentioned were Calling the move predictable, saying not hiring Joe Girardi money related, Claiming Brodie Van Wagenen doesn't know what he's doing, Claiming the Mets aren't serious about winning and Anything that follows the "Mets are Always wrong" narrative that the Media spews out to fans to make give them the wrong message.

While Joe Girardi was the "Fan Favorite" it wasn't the favorite of Brodie Van Wagenen. Fans were asked if Brodie was allowed to hire his own guy to be the manager, they replied with a "Yes" but it came with as long as it's their favorite and not his. Girardi wasn't given an offer from the Mets and fans were disgusted with that. Thinking the Mets would "Screw up", they either jumped ship or would critique every other move made in the past due to not hiring Joe Girardi.

Tim Bogar, Pat Murphy, Derek Shelton, Carlos Beltran and Eduardo Perez were the remaining candidates. Eventually, Shelton, Bogar and Murphy would be eliminated as candidates and it would come down to Perez and Beltran. This left fans confused and debating who would be the best candidate after Joe Girardi. In the end, Carlos Beltran was named Mets manager.

Keep this in mind, This is the second year the Mets have hired a manager with no experience. The First in Mickey Callaway and the second now in Carlos Beltran. Here's the thing, First time managers are almost the new norm around the League. We saw it Last year when the Mets hired Mickey Callaway, Yankees hired Aaron Boone, Reds hired David Bell, Rangers hired Chris Woodward, Twins hired Rocco Baldelli, Blue Jays hired Charlie Montoyo, Orioles hired Brandon Hyde, Red Sox hired Alex Cora, Nationals hired Davey Martinez and we also saw this year where the Mets hired Carlos Beltran, Padres hired Jayce Tinger and the Cubs hiring David Ross.

This is what most of the league is turning into now. With Analytics playing a more than big role in today's game, A Managers role has been reduced to one that is almost the equivalent of a Cheerleader. Managers in today's game are able to be in touch with their players, control and have a good grip on the Clubhouse and be able to handle the media well. The lineup is taken out of the managers hands in most cases and it's in the hands of the Front office and Analytics department.

For Carlos Beltran, it's unknown what he'll be able to control and not, but it is known that Beltran would like to have former Mets manager Terry Collins as his Bench coach to mentor him. Some say that the Mets should've hired Collins with Beltran as his bench coach to mentor him, but to have Collins as a Bench coach to Beltran will teach him everything he knows about managing and will be an excellent mentor figure to Carlos Beltran.

In the last two years, we've seen two managers with Zero managerial experience win the World series in the form of Alex Cora with the Red Sox in 2018 and Davey Martinez with the Nationals this year in 2019. Could the Mets with Carlos Beltran win in 2020? Only time will tell, But for now, I strongly recommend giving Beltran a legitimate chance. If Aaron Boone can have Back-to-Back playoff Appearances with the Yankees as manager with no experience before being hired, why can't Carlos Beltran or any other First time manager?

Beltran was hired due to his knowledge of the game of Baseball and the way the Front office feels he can get along with a Young Clubhouse. The Mets have a lot of young players on the team in the Form of The Polar Bear (Pete Alonso), The Squirrel (Jeff McNeil), Brandon Nimmo, Michael Conforto, Amed Rosario, Thor (Noah Syndergaard), Marcus Stroman, JD Davis, Steven Matz, Tomas Nido, Dominic Smith, Edwin Diaz as well as other players. Beltran is also Bilingual which can be a major benefit to connect more with Players! His 20 year Baseball career and his commitment to be part of organizations even after his playing career to learn more about the game and how it's changed and how Analytics, or as he calls it "Information" to be a more subtle approach to players can prove to be beneficial. We'll all see how he does as Mets manager and how well the Players respond to him.

That's all for Today.

Until the Next Article my Friends,

LETS GO METS!!!
