Cespedes Gone: The DH & Defensive Possibilities

We all know what recently happened: Yoenis Cespedes opted out of the 2020 season during the Mets vs Braves game in which resulted in 4-0 loss to Atlanta. However, Cespedes opting out is benefiting the Mets. What do I mean? I'll explain it.

With no more Cespedes with the Mets, this opens a lot of possibilities for DH, 2nd Base, 3rd Base and Outfield options.

Cespedes was the Primary DH for the Mets, but since he decided to opt out, The Mets are now very flexible in using the DH for Multiple players. For instance, The Mets can have Robinson Cano DH while having Jeff McNeil play 2nd Base and have the young Andres Gimenez play 3rd base. You can switch that around to McNeil at 3rd and Gimenez at 2nd.

Another Possibility is the Mets can DH either Pete Alonso and have Dominic Smith play first Base. Seeing as Smith is the Superior defensive First Baseman, It's not out of the realm of Possibility. You can Switch them out around as well. JD Davis is someone you can have as a DH option if you the Mets decide to shift McNeil to the Outfield, Have Gimenez at 3rd base. Davis at DH can also benefit the Mets in the sense that McNeil had a good amount of success as an Outfielder in the 2019 season.

I tend to think that Cespedes opting out of the 2020 season benefited the team rather than hurt it. Sure, the way he opted out was unprofessional, but this is what you call a "Blessing in Disguise." The Mets recently acquired Giants outfielder Billy Hamilton in exchange for Designated for Assignment pitcher Jordan Humphreys. Hamilton fills the role of Part-time player/Defensive replacement which Jake Marisinick had until he went down with an Injury.

What fans need to do is look at these from a Baseball perspective and not constantly circulated "Mets are Always wrong" perspective as well as the "Blame ownership" perspective, even though Mets owners aren't the best to begin with.

For manager Luis Rojas, this opens up the imagination tank a lot more now with Cespedes gone. The reasons listed above are what he has to play around with and now he has more options to find success. Perhaps this is what the Mets needed and maybe this'll help the Mets offensive woes as well as Defensive woes. We'll see how things go from here as this could be the move that the Mets needed in order to find success and maybe capitalize with Runners in Scoring Position....But we'll see how things go from here.

Until the Next Article my Friends,

LETS GO METS!!!
