Todd Frazier: Here to Stay or DFA'd?

Merry Sunday everyone! I hope you're all enjoying your weekends so far.

Time to dive into another Subject. This time in the form of Todd Frazier.

Todd Frazier is the kind of player you want on your team. He isn't a guy who hits for Average or will get lots of Base hits in a game, let alone a season. Frazier is a great defensive 3rd Baseman, terrific Clubhouse presence and a guy who loves to swing for the fences.

In 2018, The Mets signed Todd Frazier to be their everyday starting 3rd Baseman, knowing they had Asdrubal Cabrera and Jose Reyes as 3rd Base options with David Wright more than likely not coming back. For the 2018 Season, Frazier wasn't that bad for the Mets. However, He found himself on the Disabled for the Very First time in his career with a Muscle strain in his Rib Cage. He was out for almost a month and for the year, he had a .213 Batting Average with 18 Home Runs and 59 RBIs. Overall, not a good Season for him.

This season, with the Trade for JD Davis, Jeff McNeil on the 25 man Roster, Adeiny Hechavarria up with the Mets, Fans want Todd Frazier gone and want nothing to do with him purely because of his lack of offense.

Fans want JD Davis to be the starting 3rd Baseman over Frazier, Despite Davis Double Clutching the ball every time he gets a defensive opportunity that's hit to him. Jeff McNeil was getting a lot of playing time in Left Field because of the Occupied Infield in the Form of Robinson Cano at 2nd Base and JD Davis/ Todd Frazier at 3rd Base.

But with Jeff McNeil, Robinson Cano, Michael Conforto and Brandon Nimmo all on the Injured List, The Team has no choice but to Play JD Davis in the Outfield and Frazier at 3rd Base. Defensively, Frazier is the better option than JD Davis at 3rd Base. Fans want nothing to do with that though. They're take is "No offense, No chance" in a "What have you done for me" mentality.

What fans don't understand is that Todd Frazier is the kind of guy that helps a Baseball team rather than hinders it. How is that so? Well, if you look at it from a team perspective, The team loves what Frazier does for them in the form of being a positive Clubhouse presence as I stated earlier and with a team full of young kids, you need a veteran or two to show these "Young Guns" (As I call them) to teach them how to handle certain situations during the season.

For Instance, a Veteran player like Frazier can show them "How to's" such as ways to field, Ways to improve themselves both offensively and defensively, How to keep your cool during In-Game situations, etc. You look at guys like Amed Rosario, Pete Alonso, Dominic Smith, Brandon Nimmo, Jeff McNeil and other Young Players on the Mets huddling around guys like Cano and Frazier because they all have years of experience in the Big Leagues compared to their 1 or 2 years in the league.

Fans are demanding that Frazier "Sucks" and should be Designated for Assignment when it's not that easy to do. Frazier is signed to an Major League Contract and is getting paid some good money to be on the Mets roster. He has one season left and this is the final year of his Contract with the Mets. If anything, Frazier will either be traded at the Deadline or will be a Met until the end of the Season, whether it's in September or Sometime in October.

While I understand the Fans frustration and want Frazier gone, Someone of Frazier's stature can't be given away so easily.

Here's my point on him hitting mostly for the Fences:

In 2015 with the Reds, he hit 35 Home Runs and 89 RBIs and in 2016, in his First year with the White Sox, he hit 40 Home Runs and 98 RBIs! To say that he's a terrible player because of his lack of offense with the Mets is quite the Statement that's false. He hit 18 Home Runs with the Mets and had he been healthy that one month in 2018, who knows what he could've accomplished.

In terms of Offense, Frazier is what's known as a Power Hitter. As stated earlier, he isn't a player that hits for Average. Frazier hits for Power which means he'll look to swing for the fences in terms of Home runs and will look to hit Doubles or even triples accompanied with a lot of Strikeouts. Ground outs, fly outs etc.

So, while Frazier may not be the Best Bat on the team, he sure is the best Defensive 3rd Baseman on the Team by far. Right now, The Mets can't Designate Frazier for Assignment just because the fans don't want to see him on the team. Teams don't listen to fans demands, they do what's they feel is best. No team has gone to the fans for their input.

I've seen some Ludicrous trade ideas from fans to send Frazier to the Yankees along with Noah Syndergaard in exchange for Clint Frazier. First of all, Why would the Yankees want Todd Frazier when they have Gio Urshela, DJ LeMahieu and Miguel Andujar (Even though he's done for the Season) on their Roster? I've heard that because Frazier grew up a Yankee fan and was great in the Clubhouse for them. That's great, but the Yankees didn't bring him back because they didn't think he was part of their future plans, so trading him to a team that doesn't need a 3rd Baseman is ridiculous. I'm not even going to get into my thoughts on why fans want Syndergaard traded to the Yankees, That's for another Article.

In Conclusion, While I certainly under the Frustration around Frazier, I doubt he's going to be Designated for Assignment anytime soon. Like I stated before, depending where the Mets are come the Trade deadline, he'll either be traded to another team that's in in a Pennant Race or staying with the Mets until his Contract is up at the end of the season. It's something fans will have to put up for the rest of the season or until the deadline.

Until the Next Entry my Friends,

LETS GO METS!!!
